Standing at 797 feet, High Tor offers views of the Hudson River, the town of Haverstraw, and, even on hazy days, a distant glimpse of the New York City skyline. Just down the nearly 3-mile Long Path trail is Little Tor (620 feet).

Sam's Point Preserve is located on the highest section of the Shawangunk Mountains and the most southerly section of Minnewaska State Park Preserve. The Verkeerderkill Falls Trail leads to a 187-foot-high waterfall, and another path connects with ice caves that are cool even in the summer.
On its way to the Long Island Sound, the Mianus River makes its way through this gorge alongside 350-year-old hemlocks and Havemeyer Falls. Mica, feldspar and quartz - some if it stacked on rocks by visitors - can be found at the Hobby Hill Quarry from the 18th century.
